My Second Year Project was a hand held Optical Revolution Data Acquisition System. The project was based around an Intel 8051 Microprocessor, Non-Volatile RAM for storage of results, a three-button interface, a LCD and a RS232 Interface for connection to a PC. Software was written in assembler for the 8051 and in Modula-2 for the host PC software that retrieved the data results from the hand held unit and graphed the results.
Final Year Project was a Graphical User Interface for a set of pattern recognition tools. The tools were a set of algorithms that could identify hand written characters. The Graphical user interface was written using Microsoft Windows 16bit API calls and featured Image file decoding algorithms to allow scanned images to be used. The project mainly concentrated on applying User Interface theory and all software was written using the Borland C IDE.

Interests and Activities:

I enjoy sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, mountain biking, running and orienteering. I have obtained my RYA levels 3 and 4 for sailing and I also teach young people at a local outdoor activity youth club.

Additional Skills:

I am highly computer literate and competent in many applications including Microsoft Office, Windows versions 3.1x, 95, 98 and Windows NT/2000 and XP. I also have experience of various programming languages including BASIC, Pascal, Modula-2, C/C+, MFC and have had experience with MASM. During my studies I have been exposed to structured design principles and have had experience with the Select – Yourdon and Select – OMT Computer Aided Software Engineering Tools. I have had experience in configuring ethernet networks with Windows NT/2000/XP and TCP/IP and other protocols. I have had HTML, PHP and Perl Experience on Apache and Windows web servers.

March 2001 until the Present:
Work involved the development of mobile phone interfaces for PC Card GSM devices on Microsoft Pocket PC, Handheld PC 2000 and Windows Desktop Operating systems using MFC. Other work involved the development and standardisation of production test systems for GSM modules, MMI work for GSM mobile phones using C, development and design work for a 2.5G and 3G load generator using MFC and C++.

Concept Design, Midsummer Place, Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
June 2000 until March 2001:
Work involved the development of Infrared and versit (vCards and vCalendars) test tools using Win32 API C for a leading mobile phone manufacturer. I have also been involved in Bluetooth research and feasibility studies, SSL feasibility studies, Java development and EPOC development for the Psion palm held computers. I have also worked on a web based test documentation system for the internal test team using Perl CGI and HTML.

October 1997 until June 2000:
Work involved point enabler development for PCMCIA Ethernet and Modem Cards, development of utility disks for Multi-Function PCMCIA products, providing last line technical support and problem solving on Ethernet and Multi-function PCMCIA products. I also worked in the Test and Validation team working with PSTN Modems, GSM, ISDN, and Ethernet. I worked as part of project teams that developed Multi-function PCMCIA and CardBus products.

During University vacations between Summer 1994 and Summer 1997:
Work involved setting up computer workstations, setting up software, training staff in the use and maintenance of the systems, designing programs based on spreadsheets to perform tasks such as calculating the co-ordinates of points on curves and spirals, to assist the engineers and land surveyors with their work and also developing cross-referencing tools for the use of site staff.
